Stars from the Planes
i saw them in the city, i saw them on the farm
they felt so close, so close by
i could almost reach out my arms
i saw them from the canyon (up and down and)
i saw them on the hill
and i knew that the ones that were moving fastest
they were the ones that looked the most still
you smiled and then the sky exploded again
but nobody'd ever bothered to explain
that once night fell i was somehow supposed to tell
the stars from the planes, the stars from the planes
i saw them shine and shimmer
i watched them fade in flight
a billion shades of black
and a million more shades of white
i spied you chase their trails (and had to wonder)
what's the actual rush
when the hitch is the ones you can wish upon are
the very ones you're never gonna touch
i longed to shake all that light 'bove the lake
i longed to break free from these chains
but once night fell just how was i supposed to tell
the stars from the planes, the stars from the planes
once we settle this little bet we'll
finally know if i'm liar
pick a petal, he loves metal
pick a petal, he loves fire
i studied them in silence
like i studied them in school
both running into physics
mystics running clear out of fuel
a burning in our bodies (do you copy)
an aching in our souls
it was tragic
the ones that we feared come crashing
they were the only ones in our control
we taxied down every runway and found
we didnt know how to fly or go up in flames
but once night fell we were somehow supposed to tell
the stars from the planes, the stars from the planes
