Last Reincarnation

i was a dancer in the bolshoi ballet
i was a black bishop, was a green beret
after that, a courageous cancer patient
but i've learned the hard way on many an occasion

you're only as good as your last reincarnation

i've been a blue whale, and cleopatra's pet
a bolivian mathematician, a suffragette
in between, ran an underground railroad station
but i know i won't get a standing ovation 'cuz

you're only as good as your last reincarnation

so in this body may be nobody but a guest
who hasn't done a damn thing since he left his momma's breast
who's easily discouraged, who's easily depressed
who's to say just what i might accomplish in the next

a future superhero, a devil in disguise
the youngest baby ever to win the nobel prize
now you give your condolences for my frustrations
next time you'll give your congratulations
cuz you're only as good as your last reincarnation
yeah you're only as good as your last reincarnation
